All life is dependent on water. Though in short supply, its influence is enormous. Not only does is shape the landscape, but where it collects, it attracts large communities of animals. 40% of all fish species live in fresh water and most amphibians, insects, reptiles, plants, birds and mammals live in or near it. It is quite simply the most precious resource on Earth.
