Shallow Seas

Although shallow seas make up just 8% of the ocean's surface they are by far the richest part of the ocean, and are rarely more than 200m deep.  The richness and variety of life depends on the quantity of sunlight and the availability nutrients in the water.  The great barrier reef is the worlds largest reef stretching for 2,600km off the coast of Australia.
